4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (REAR SPEED SENSOR)
(a) Install the rear speed sensor and the rear speed sensor rotor.
(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(c) Start the engine.
(d) Select the Data List on the Techstream See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Data List / Active Test.
ABS/VSC/TRAC
(e) Check that the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream.
HINT
Factors that affect the indicated vehicle speed include tire size, tire inflation, and tire wear. The speed indicated on the
speedometer has an allowable margin of error. This can be tested using a speedometer tester (calibrated chassis dynamometer).
For details about testing and the margin of error, see the reference chart See: Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning
Indicators/Testing and Inspection/Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures/Problem Symptoms Table.
OK:
The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream is the similar speed as indicated on the
speedometer.

NOTICE:
Check the speed sensor signal after replacement See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control
Systems/Testing and Inspection/Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview/Test Mode Procedure.
HINT
- The rear speed sensor rotor is incorporated into the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
- If the rear speed sensor rotor needs to be replaced, replace it together with the rear axle hub and bearing assembly with rear
speed sensor See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Wheel Speed Sensor/Service and
Repair/Rear Speed Sensor/Removal for 2WD).
- If troubleshooting has been carried out according to Problem Symptoms Table, refer back to the table and proceed to the next
step See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Symptom Related
Diagnostic Procedures/Problem Symptoms Table.
C -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm
Systems/Diagrams/Diagnostic Aids/How To Troubleshoot ECU Controlled Systems/How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
B -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR AND REAR SPEED SENSOR ROTOR
A -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Replace the rear speed sensor See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Wheel Speed
Sensor/Service and Repair/Rear Speed Sensor/Removal.
