P1616 - Communication Error from ECM to Distance Control ECU
DESCRIPTION
The ECM receives signals from each sensor and ECU, then sends signals such as A/T signals, cruise control operation signals, low speed operation
signals, brake control operation signals, and radar light emission prohibiting signals, to the driving support ECU. The ECM is the only component
that has a function to record and output the DTCs in the dynamic radar cruise control system. Therefore, if the driving support ECU detects a
communication error from the ECM, it sends a malfunction signal back to the ECM.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. REPLACE ECM
(a) Replace the ECM (for 2GR-FE) See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Engine Control Module/Service and
Repair/Components.

2. CHECK DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs See: Cruise Control/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Dynamic Radar Cruise
Control System.
(b) Perform the following to make sure that the DTC detection conditions are met.
HINT
If the detection conditions are not met, the malfunction cannot be detected.
(1) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) or more.
(2) Turn the cruise control main switch on.
