POWER ASSIST SYSTEMS: POWER STEERING SYSTEM: C1541: Vehicle Speed Signal Malfunction
C1541 - Vehicle Speed Signal Malfunction
DESCRIPTION
The power steering ECU receives vehicle speed signals from the brake actuator assembly (skid control ECU) via CAN communication. The ECU
provides appropriate assisting force in accordance with the vehicle speed, based on the signals.
If the ECU detects this DTC, it adjusts the amount of power assistance for a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) and continues the system control.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
If the power steering ECU has been replaced with a new one, perform the rotation angle sensor initialization and torque sensor
zero point calibration See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Testing and Inspection/Programming and Relearning.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM)
(a) Check if DTC U0129 is output See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
Trouble Codes.
Result:
HINT
DTC U0129 indicates an skid control ECU communication malfunction in the power steering system.
B -- GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Information
Bus/Testing and Inspection/Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview/CAN Communication System/How to Proceed With
Troubleshooting
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM)
(a) Using the Techstream, check for DTCs and confirm that there are no malfunctions in the vehicle stability control system See: Brakes
and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble
Codes.
Result:
B -- REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE See: Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions/Vehicle Stability Control
System
A -- REPLACE POWER STEERING ECU See: Relays and Modules/Relays and Modules - Steering and Suspension/Relays and
Modules - Steering/Steering Control Module/Service and Repair/Removal
