  • Key enhancements yield heightened levels of interior quiet and comfort

  • LS 500 and LS 500h powerplants both receive additional refinement for 2021

  • Fine-tuned suspension offers superior ride quality

  • New 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen added for all LS models

  • Starting MSRP of $104,750 for LS 500

TORONTO,ON (November 12, 2020) – Creating an iconic vehicle to set the tone for a luxury automaker is no simple task. The first-generation LS debuted in 1990 in Canada with this monumental goal to help shape the brand. It built the foundation of Lexus with the high praise earned by its exceptional quietness and comfort. Chief Branding Officer and Master Driver Akio Toyoda positions the LS―in all its generations―as "a model that gives rise to transformation through the spirit of constant innovation and by providing new technologies and value for the times."

The 2021 Lexus LS looks to build on the success of the all-new LS that launched in 2018, adding additional refinement and technology to an already strong dynamic package. The LS, like all Lexus vehicles, relies on core principals of the brand such as Takumi craftsmanship, or a meticulous artisanship to its construction, and Omotenashi, an anticipatory hospitality that caters to a Guest’s needs before they need them. The new LS will also incorporate a new philosophical change to its design known as the Lexus Driving Signature, which looks to set a new standard for vehicle development and refinement moving forward.

The 2021 Lexus LS 500 will begin arriving at dealerships in late November of 2020, with a starting MSRP of $104,750. LS 500h models are expected to arrive at dealerships in early 2021, with a starting MSRP of $133,900.

Dynamic Evolution

For the 2021 model year, Lexus engineers focused on elevating the LS sedan's levels of comfort, quietness and overall refinement to help balance a range of new dynamic enhancements dictated by the brand's Lexus Driving Signature. This philosophy applies detailed tuning, thoughtful component updates and control surface upgrades to help drive Lexus products to a new standard of vehicle control, balance and, ultimately, driver confidence.

Expanding on this, developed with the aim of greatly enhancing the exceptional quietness and comfort that represent the Lexus DNA, is the culmination of thorough craftsmanship applied to even the smallest component―all the way from the vehicle's powertrain and suspension to the positioning of the stitch points of the seats.

"The LS, as a flagship, has constantly pursued innovation and has provided new technologies and value for its customers,” said Lexus International President Koji Sato. “In developing the new LS, we furthered the evolution of the exceptional quietness and comfort that has been a steadfast constant since the model's first generation."

Enhancing the Drive

The LS’s fundamental dynamic character, as defined by the Lexus GA-L platform, makes it the brand’s most capable sedan flagship to date. Subtle tuning of its control surfaces, the steering and the braking controls help give it more control, poise and help elevate driver confidence.

The key refinements on the latest LS include evolving the tuning of the suspension and chassis to help achieve a smoother, more comfortable ride without sacrificing any of the current model’s dynamic character. Several subtle, key underpinning modifications were made to enhance ride comfort. To this end, the suspension features revised spring and damper rates for improved damping performance. To better control vehicle body roll in turns, the diameters of the front and rear anti-roll bars have been optimized. For the 2021 model year, larger front and rear liquid-filled bushings also aid in creating an even plusher ride.

For added suppleness and enhanced handling stability, the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) employs revised linear solenoids and control valvesdesigned to provide low damping force via their enlarged internal flow path. In addition, the operation of the LS’s available ride-height-adjustable air suspension function that helps facilitate ingress and egress has been enhanced.

Impressive Powerplants

The 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine on the LS 500 offers the output one would expect in a flagship sedan: 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. In the pursuit of refinement goals, the engine features a newly developed piston with a lip shape on the piston top to help realize low emissions and quiet operation when the engine is cold. The wastegate control on the twin-turbo engine has also been updated to provide stable opening and closing of the valve to improve performance efficiency. The 10-speed automatic transmission also receives attention, as its shift logic is re-calibrated to aid in keeping the engine in a more responsive area of its power band.

The LS 500 AWD delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. The driver can tailor powertrain response and feel by choosing from Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport S or Sport S+ modes. The standard AWD system features a Torsen® limited-slip center differential to further enhance grip, traction and cornering stability. The torque distribution can vary from 31 percent front / 69 percent rear on dry roads to as much as 48 percent front / 52 percent rear on slick surfaces.

The LS 500h (the “h” referring to hybrid) uses a Multistage Hybrid System that combines a naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with two electric motor/generators powered by a compact, lightweight lithium-ion battery. For 2021, an even more dramatic powertrain improvement has been made to the Multistage Hybrid System, as the system is now tuned to utilize a new battery strategy and drive more power through the electric motors upon acceleration. The Multistage shift software has also been updated to take advantage of this electric power appearing earlier in the powerband. Combined system output of the internal combustion engine with the electric traction system is 354 hp, enabling the LS 500h AWD to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Next-Level Interior

As part of the effort to enhance the LS’s interior refinement, many subtle improvements were addressed in the cabin in the interest of elevating passenger comfort. Details such as armrests, seat cushions, center console armrest padding and other touch points receive additional foam material. The front seats have also been altered with revised seat springs and thicker cushioning material under a seat surface that offers stitching patterns designed to enhance comfort.

Controls on the steering wheel and center console have been uniformly colored black for improved visibility and a clear-cut impression. Also, a switch for displaying on the touch display the controls for the often-used seat heaters and steering wheel heater has been added to the center console for improved operability.

For 2021, a new Palomino Leather interior and anew Black Laser Special interior ornamentation will be available. On Executive models, the available Kiriko Glass ornamentation and available hand-folded pleats on the door trim perfectly illustrate the brand’s “Innovative elegance through Japanese craftsmanship” and exemplify a true handcrafted approach. The striking cut glass ornamentation – a world first in a production vehicle – draws inspiration from Japanese Kiriko glassware. Traditional Kiriko patterns are created using a technique that involves hand-cutting clear colors and delicate lines in a piece of glass, which are then repeatedly polished to a soft glow.

The new 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen provide additional control options for driver and passenger. All LS models for 2021 come standard with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility which allows Guests to access their favourite smartphone features on the 12.3-inch touchscreen display.  New for 2021, all LS models are compatible with the Lexus App, which includes a three-year trial to Enform Remote. This allows Guests to start and stop their engine, lock and unlock their doors and more through their smartphone, Amazon Alexa™ or Google Assistant™ enabled devices and select smartwatches.

Integrated into the LS 500’s cabin is the next-generation Remote Touch Interface (RTI). In addition to the 12.3-inch-wide touchscreen and navigation display, the LS can incorporate a standard 24-inch color heads-up display (HUD) that projects a variety of information onto the driver’s forward view. For 2021, the available digital rearview mirror features a larger high-resolution display for improved visibility of the area behind the vehicle.

While making the LS even more of a driver’s car, Lexus also optimized the LS as a car to be driven in, lavishing considerable attention to the rear seat. There are options for both heating and massage in addition to the Executive Package which adds a passenger-side seat which can be reclined up to 48 degrees, an angle chosen for its precise level of comfort.

Because this generation LS is lower than previous versions, Lexus equipped the available air suspension with an access function. Activated by unlocking the car with the smart key, access mode automatically raises the vehicle to make it easier to step into or get out of the LS.

Looking the Part

The LS offers a host of interior creature comforts for driver and passengers alike, and yet the careful attention to exterior detail ensures the LS is majestic at a standstill or while in motion. The front of the LS is adorned with an updated front bumper that features a redesigned front fascia, while the lower radiator air intakes are squared to express a sturdy stance. The color of the spindle grill has been changed to a dark metallic for a more elegant appearance befitting a flagship product. New 3-projector LED headlamps feature a vertically stacked layout. The deep headlamps and squarish sub-radiator grilles positioned to the outside help to form the confident nature of the vehicle's stance.

At the rear of the 2021 LS, the chrome trim within the rear combination lamps has been switched to Piano Black to enhance the sense of the vehicle's presence. The 2021 LS will be also offered in a new exterior color Iridium.

F SPORT Package

In the F SPORT version of the LS, the garnish of the sub-radiator grilles wraps around to the sides so as to underline the vehicle's wide stance. Other elements that help to accentuate the F SPORT's more dynamic image include a dedicated color for the spindle grille and 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/45RF20 front and 275/40RF20 rear tires in either summer performance or all-season compounds.

Lexus took full advantage of the new GA–L platform’s inherent driving agility when developing the F SPORT package. Handling enhancements via the latest iteration of the VDIM system allows for integrated management of these chassis dynamics as a single system. In addition, larger front and rear brakes — six-piston aluminum monoblock calipers with ventilated 400 mm rotors in front and four-piston calipers with 359 mm rotors in back — assure confident stopping power.

Special F SPORT rocker moldings, along with the aforementioned 20-inch wheels, accentuate the rakish LS profile. Lexus infused the F SPORT persona throughout the cabin, starting with the perforated-grill pattern on seating surfaces and Naguri aluminum trim elements. F SPORT 28-way electric/pneumatic seats with passenger-seat power cushion-length extenders brace occupants when driving through curves, ensuring exceptional comfort no matter the length of the drive.

Advanced Safety Features and Driver Support

All grades of the 2021 LS feature Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 as standard equipment. The Pre-Collision System (PCS) included with LSS+ 2.0 employs both a millimeter wave radar and a monocular camera sensor system designed to detect a preceding vehicle, a bicyclist in daytime situations as well as a preceding vehicle and a pedestrian in both daylight and low-light situations.

The Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system is designed to alert the driver when it senses that the vehicle is deviating from its lane with audible and visual alerts, as well as steering wheel vibration. It’s also capable of providing a certain amount of steering assist to help keep the car from deviating from its marked lane.

The Lane Departure Alert with Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system comes standard and is designed to detect visible lane markings to determine lane position and place the vehicle in the center of the lane when working in conjunction with the All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. If road markings are not detected, LTA is also capable, in certain conditions, of following the car ahead of it.

The Lexus Safety System+ A offers additional equipment and is available as an option. Both systems, in addition to other technologies, help to support more secure driving in a broad range of situations, providing the driver with information ranging from support status notifications to information on vehicle behavior during safety feature operation via the multi-information display and, when equipped, the large color head-up display (HUD).

Lexus Safety System+ A encompasses an expanded response range of the Pre-Collision System (PCS). It includes Front Lateral Side PCS, which employs a lateral side radar designed to detect vehicles approaching diagonally in front of the Lexus. If the system determines a collision may occur, it warns the driver to perform evasive maneuvers. Additionally, Brake Assist is applied if the system determines there is a high probability for a collision, helping the driver avoid a collision or mitigate the impact force to occupants and the vehicle. Intersection Turning Assist is also newly added to LS for LSS+ A, which is designed to detect oncoming vehicles from the front when turning left at an intersection as well as crossing pedestrians approaching from the front when turning right or left. Front Cross-Traffic Alert (FCTA) is designed to, under certain circumstances, warn the driver of vehicles or bicycles approaching from the left or right at intersections.

Active Steering Assist (ASA) has the potential to help reduce the severity of, or prevent collisions with, a preceding pedestrian that may not be avoided through automatic emergency braking alone. The system is designed to detect certain situations where there is a high probability of a collision with a pedestrian in the vehicle’s lane of travel or with a continuous structure, such as a guardrail. If the system is able to recognize the lane markers on both sides of the vehicle, and the system determines that avoiding or mitigating a collision through brake control alone may not be likely, but that it might be avoided or mitigated with steering assist, the system assists in collision mitigation or prevention by providing a limited amount of automatic steering assist within the lane in addition to activating an alert and applying the brakes.

Lane Change Assist is added to Lane Tracing Assist. Lane Change Assist allows the vehicle to perform a driver-triggered and monitored lane change using the front camera, millimeter wave radar, front side radar sensor and Blind Spot Monitor sensor when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Tracing Assist are in use. Lane Change Assist uses driver activation of the turning signal as a cue to engage and supports lane changes by monitoring the surrounding road environment and, at the appropriate timing, controls steering as well as acceleration and deceleration.

Available on all LS models for 2021 is Lexus Enform Safety Connect (3-year trial included), Enform Remote (3-year trial) and Lexus Enform Service Connect (10-year trial).

Track Proven. Street Legal. The 2021 Lexus RC F

2021-RC-F

TORONTO, ONTARIO – OCTOBER 15, 2020 – Why drive when you can fly? The Lexus RC F is flying on four wheels, with incredible power and performance dynamics, wrapped in an aggressively styled coupe and loaded with luxury amenities. New for 2021, all three RC F models are now factory fitted with the Lexus Navigation with Remote package of connected services – including Enform Remote (3 year trial), Enform Service Connect (10 year trial), Enform Safety Connect (3 year trial),Embedded Navigation and Enform Destination Assist (3 year trial).

The heart of the RC F is a beast of an engine – a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 that produces 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. It’s as brainy as it is brawny – loaded with sophisticated engine management technologies to maximize usable horsepower, torque, and efficiency while minimizing emissions. Lexus engineers coupled this to a uniquely tuned eight-speed Sports Direct Shift automatic transmission that offers manual control through steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When not in manual mode, the transmission detects curves and automatically holds the lower gear to give optimal response when accelerating out the other side.

The RC F is then enhanced with an impressive list of high-performance features, including Launch Control, Drive Mode Select, a limited slip differential, and Adaptive Variable Suspension systems. The RC F’s muscular strength demands an impressive amount of stopping power. Brembo disc brakes put the driver in command with six-piston front and four-piston rear monoblock calipers. Brake discs are engineered to help keep brake pads clean and to rapidly shed heat, aided by the large air vents that bracket the front grille.

The RC F’s sport coupe credentials are on full display with aggressively crafted bodywork featuring sharpened front bumper, Lexus F mesh grille flanked by air intakes, and character lines that emphasize the coupe’s low proportions and well-planted stance. The look is finished with a hood scoop, massive 19” wheels in grade-specific designs, plus triple LED headlamps with an integrated L-motif turn signal, LED rear combination lights, and quad tail pipes.

Inside, the RC F features deeply bolstered cockpit seating. Uniquely designed to disperse body pressure, the low-set high back seats keep driver and navigator comfortable on the long haul and firmly planted during high-spirited driving. Each seat is strikingly finished with an embossed “F” on the headrests. The driver will feel as if the elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel was molded to their hands, while the instrument cluster draws on the Lexus LFA Super Car and channels the spirit of aircraft instruments. The centrally mounted tachometer alters colour according to drive mode. At a glance information includes digital and analogue speed readouts, a G Force meter, and a stopwatch.

In addition to the Lexus Navigation with Remote package, every RC F is generously equipped with powerful yet intuitive technologies and a long list of luxury amenities. The Remote Touch interface places convenient access to audio and navigation systems at the driver’s fingertips. All display audio systems feature a 10.3” screen, , Apple CarPlay™ compatibility and, new for 2021, Android Auto™ compatibility. Other amenities include the Lexus Smart Key System with Push Button Start, a driver’s seat memory system, power adjustable and heated exterior memory mirrors with integrated signal lamps, and LED ambient cabin lighting.

As a Lexus, every RC F is impressively equipped with state of the art safety features, headlined by Lexus Safety System +. This portfolio of active safety technologies supports the driver’s awareness and decision-making under a range of traffic conditions and contingencies. Other safety systems include the Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a backup camera, eight airbags, and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management – an array of handling and traction control systems that can predict and prevent skids even before they occur. On the RC F, VDIM features four settings – including Expert Mode, for drivers who want proactive slide control as they hone their skills.

The 2021 Lexus RC F is available in a choice of model and trim combinations as follows:

The 2021 Lexus RC F (starting MSRP: $85,000) introduces guests to the Lexus F experience. This model includes 19” forged alloy wheels, SACHS shock absorbers, an Active Rear Wing, a moon roof, and rain sensing wipers. Inside, this model features heated and ventilated front seats, a heated leather-clad steering wheel, and a 10-speaker Lexus display audio system.

The 2021 Lexus RC F Performance Package (starting MSRP: $96,000) enhances the style, comfort and luxury of the high performance coupe with 19” polished alloy wheels, a carbon fibre roof and Active Rear Wing, and the Torque Vectoring Differential system. Inside, the cabin receives a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system to provide an epic soundtrack to any drive, plus a power adjustable steering column and intuitive parking assist. This model eschews the moon roof in favour of a solid top.

The 2021 Lexus RC F Track Edition (starting MSRP: $120,000) completes the lineup with a special model designed specifically for track day. Where even a few grams make a huge difference, this model removes a number of heavier features such as the heating and ventilating systems in the front seats. It then and replaces sections of the body with lightweight carbon fibre panels and adds a bunch of performance features – including BREMBO carbon ceramic brakes with red painted calipers, a carbon fibre aerodynamics kit, titanium muffler, and ultra lightweight forged 19” alloy wheels. The result is a vehicle that’s a full 80 kilograms lighter than the other models. The Track Edition is finished with a unique Red Alcantara interior.

The 2021 Lexus RC F is now on sale at Lexus Dealers across Canada. For complete and up-to-date details and specifications, visit www.lexus.ca/rcf

The superior performance of the 2021 Lexus IS brings driver and vehicle closer together for an elevated driving experience

Ultra_White_2021_Lexus_IS_350_F-Sport_040

TORONTO, ONTARIO – OCTOBER 1, 2020 – The new and recently revealed 2021 Lexus IS brings an exciting driving experience to the table. The IS has continuously been synonymous with exhilaration and superior driving performance and the new 2021 Lexus IS is no exception. With its superior agile handling and performance that forges a closer bond between driver and machine, the unique driving experience that the 2021 IS offers showcases why it is a true luxury sports sedan.

“The new Lexus IS enters the 2021 model year with a big dose of energy” said Robert Tsang, Director of Lexus Canada “We have added the latest in safety and connected technology while further honing vehicle dynamics to amplify the thrill of the drive.”

From day one, the IS has left a lasting impression in the luxury sports sedan segment, where dynamic capability and driving performance are mandatory attributes. The 2021 IS looks to further cement the bond between driver and vehicle by providing an enhanced linear driving characteristic that provides clear and direct feedback to the driver.

Countless test hours at the newly developed Shimoyama track in Japan and other test facilities were conducted on various road surfaces and conditions to identify ways to increase responsiveness and reduce unnecessary movement from unsprung mass. One of the first things engineers targeted was enhancing body rigidity. The increased rigidity not only helps reduce unwanted noise and vibration, but it also helps improve riding comfort and driving performance with enhanced response to steering input.

The bold new exterior styling of the 2021 IS not only aims for a provocative design, but its athletic silhouette is also meant to signify the agile changes that have taken place below the sheet metal. Overall, the new IS evokes lower, wider proportions. It is slightly wider, with muscular fenders that extend to enhance and accommodate the larger available 19-inch wheels and larger diameter tires. The wide and low form nods to the inherently high level of driving performance the IS possesses, but the sleek lines are also complemented with overtly aggressive sharpness carved into the side and shoulder character lines.

Luxury and performance are not necessarily mutually exclusive, and yet the two live in harmony in the new IS. The interior features standard NuLuxe-trimmed seating, a dual-zone automatic climate control system with touch-sensitive controls and Smart Key with push button start. New for 2021, an 8-inch touchscreen nearly 80mm is closer to the driver for easy access to the controls, while an expansive new 10.3-inch touchscreen is available. The new multimedia system features Apple CarPlay® compatibility and Android Auto™ compatibility.

In terms of safety, the standard Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 (LSS+ 2.5) found on the new IS receives additions for 2021. A number of key features that are part of the Lexus Safety System+ have been enhanced, along with the addition of a few key features. For starters, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) features an enhancement to the single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar elements to expand the response range. By enhancing the radar and camera capabilities it is now possible for the system to help detect not only the vehicle ahead but also a preceding bicyclist in daytime and even a preceding pedestrian in daytime and low-light conditions. At intersections, the system has improved recognition of an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian when performing a left-hand turn and may activate typical PCS functions if needed. Additional PCS functions include Emergency Steering Assist (ESA), which is designed to assist steering within the vehicle’s lane as cued by the driver. To help IS drivers change lanes with confidence, the standard Blind Spot Monitor is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes. Standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) can offer added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out with a visual and audible warning.

The 2021 IS is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, and there are three distinct powertrain options available depending upon the grade.

The 2021 Lexus IS 300 RWD F SPORT Series 1 (starting MSRP: $42,950) features a 2.0-litre, turbocharged and intercooled inline four-cylinder engine, mated to an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission. This model includes 19” F SPORT wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, 8-way power adjustable front seats and F SPORT design enhancements, as well as an LFA-Style full TFT gauge cluster, auto dimming exterior mirrors and rain sensing wipers.

The 2021 Lexus IS 300 AWD (starting MSRP: $43,400) is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 that delivers 260 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. This model features 18” alloy wheels, heated, 8-way power adjustable front seats, dual zone automatic climate control, smart key system with push button start, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert and rain sensing wipers. It may be enhanced with a variety of available upgrade packages, as follows:

For buyers who crave maximum power, the 2021 Lexus IS 350 AWD F SPORT Series 2 (starting MSRP: $53,300), powered by a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 311 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of peak torque, coupled a six-speed automatic transmission, offers all the features and upgrades of the IS 300 F SPORT Series 2 model. This model can be enhanced with another F Sport package:

  • The 2021 Lexus IS 350 AWD F SPORT Series 3 (starting MSRP: $58,000) is the sportiest IS available. Built on the F SPORT Series 2 model, it adds the Dynamic Handling Package, which includes unique 19” forged BBS wheels, Adaptive Variable Suspension with SPORT+ mode, a carbon fibre spoiler and carbon fibre mirror covers as well as silver wood interior accents. It is also equipped with exclusive triple LED headlamps.

LEXUS ES SERIES GROWS FOR 2021: ALL-NEW AWD, BLACK LINE SERIES ENHANCE LINEUP

MY21_ES_250_AWD_LUXURY_023

  • New 2021 ES 250 AWD expands ES series options

  • 2021 ES Black Line Special Edition with newly developed, sporty appearance

  • Three powertrains offering tremendous luxury and value

TORONTO, ON – August 20, 2020 – The Lexus ES series is expanding this year with two new variations of the signature sedan. The all-new 2021 Lexus ES 250 AWD will offer better traction when driving in inclement weather, and the 2021 ES 350 Black Line Special Edition brings a sporty, sleek look with the limited series. With the added variety, Lexus Guests can choose the ES that fits their lifestyle and climate. The enhanced 2021 ES lineup will begin arriving at Dealerships in early fall 2020.

2021 ES 250 AWD

The 2021 Lexus ES 250 AWD is the first all-wheel drive model for the ES series bringing with it the increased confidence in inclement weather. From snow to rainy days or even the off-chance gravel road, drivers can be assured the ES AWD will help keep all four tires grounded – meaning more points of contact with the ground with the ability to help maintain traction on the back tires around turns.

Sending torque to all four wheels, the 2.5-litre L4 engine powers through conditions when traction is low to allow better acceleration with less tire slip. The improved traction of the 2021 ES AWD gives the vehicle the ability to accelerate from rest better with 203 horsepower and an estimated fuel rating of 8.4 L/100km, better than other gas models in the ES series.

Dynamic Torque Control AWD can provide effective traction for inclement and slippery weather while minimizing AWD’s typical drag on fuel economy. The system can direct up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels, in response to acceleration from a start or slippage at the front wheels.

When AWD isn’t needed, the electromagnetic controlled coupling on the rear drive axle can disengage the propeller shaft to help prioritize fuel efficiency. The AWD is designed to re-engage in an instant, when needed, and its operation is transparent to the driver and passengers.

The addition of AWD does not affect passenger legroom, trunk room, ride comfort, cabin quietness or vehicle agility. Inside, the car has the same rear seat hip point height as the FWD ES model for gas and hybrid.

The transformation to AWD does not add vehicle weight, and trunk space is consistent with FWD versions. The suspension tuning, wheels, and tires differentiating the ES model grades carry over to the AWD versions. That means, for example, the ES F SPORT grade features the same sport-tuned suspension and 19-inch wheels in both FWD and AWD versions.

2021 ES 350 Black Line Special Edition

For 2021, a limited production of the Black Line Special Edition ES 350s will be available. The Black Line Special Edition will be based on the F SPORT grade and will be offered in a choice of two exterior colours that include Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 and Ultra White, and the F SPORT-only two-tone interior that features white and black colouring with gray stitching. The Black Line ES 350s will also include unique features such as Black outer mirrors, darkened F SPORT wheels and lug nuts, and a new sporty, black rear lip spoiler.

2021 ES RETURNS WITH KEY UPDATES

The 2021 ES rides on the Global Architecture–K (GA-K) platform, which has allowed designers to create an ES design that is beautiful yet also enjoyable to drive. The ES sedan is longer (+66 mm), lower (-5 mm) and wider (+46 mm.) than the prior generation with wheels that have been pushed closer to the corners thanks to a two-inch longer wheelbase and wider tracks front (+11 mm) and rear (+38 mm).

The signature grille follows the path set forth by the LC coupe and the LS flagship, yet adds individual cues unique to the ES, like the vertical grille pattern. That theme is repeated at each corner of the bumper to give the ES a wide, planted look that promotes strength and stability.

F SPORT models feature a unique grille that borrows directly from the LS flagship. In place of the standard model’s vertical bars, the F SPORT has a mesh pattern composed of interlocking “L”s with a jet black finish and dark trim. Cut outs at each corner of the front fascia also sport the black finish mesh but have even wider openings than the standard model to further emphasize the firmly anchored stance.

The slim headlamp design of the ES features distinctive L-shaped marker lights. Optional triple beam headlights are available and help refine the look with three compact LED projector units, while the standard design features a single LED projector beam design that retains the signature “L”-shaped marker lights.

The ES is available with a plethora of wheel choices, which includes the standard 17-inch split five-spoke design with dark silver accents and a machined finish. A similar colour scheme is used for the larger 18-inch, 10-spoke wheel available on the Luxury grade. An additional 18-inch split, five-spoke wheel design with a high-gloss finish is standard on Ultra Luxury grade. The F SPORT models are fitted with unique 19-inch wheels, with a dual-spoke design highlighted by a dark premium graphite coating that is also unique to the F SPORT.

Eight exterior colour options are available, including Eminent White Pearl*, Nebula Gray Pearl, Atomic Silver, Caviar, Matador Red Mica, Moonbeam Beige Metallic, while ES F SPORT offers Ultra Sonic Blue Mica 2.0* and Ultra White*.

The interior options for the ES are also plentiful and vary by grade. Base ES models are available with NuLuxe®-trim options that include Black and Flaxen paired with Black or Espresso wood trim accents. Luxury grades are available with leather-trimmed interior colour options Chateau, Black and Flaxen, with interior accents that include Black and Flaxen paired with Black, Dark Mocha wood or Espresso wood trim accents. F SPORT models offer NuLuxe®-trim interior colour options that include White, Black and Circuit Red, all of which can be paired with Hadori Aluminum trim accents.

The Ultra Luxury grade will offer a new semi-aniline leather-trimmed seat. This is added to the options of Chateau with Dark Mocha wood trim, Black with Espresso wood trim, and Flaxen with Espresso wood trim.

DESIGNED FOR DYNAMIC HANDLING

The GA-K chassis is an exceptionally rigid front-wheel drive chassis made from several grades of high-strength steel. From the addition of more than double laser screw welds from the previous generation and laser screw welding, a construction method shared with the LS sedan, makes for a truly robust structure. Additional measures are used to improve front-end stiffness, including a strut tower brace, multiple reinforcement panels for the strut towers themselves, and new radiator support braces.

The suspension is tuned for ideal responsiveness for the chassis. The front suspension features a strut angle that aligns at the ideal angle to improve ride quality, while an increase in caster angle (+2 degrees) and caster trail (+8 mm) from the previous generation help improve straight-line stability. The Dynamic Control Shocks employed are capable of responding to even the smallest movements thanks to a non-overlapping auxiliary valve that allows damper oil to flow in either direction before entering the main valve.

The rear suspension design utilizes a trailing arm and a multilink setup that also benefits from the responsiveness of the new Dynamic Control Shocks. Higher placement of the trailing arm mounting point and a larger bushing size result in enhanced helping to dampen road irregularities. Wider spacing of the stabilizer bushing mounts can also contribute to overall roll reduction.

A rack-assist type Electric Power Steering (EPS) system is used to deliver a more precise steering feel compared to the previous generation. Unlike the previous ES which used a steering-column-mounted assist motor, the EPS setup mounts the assist motor directly on the steering rack which returns more precise feedback to the steering wheel.

PERFORMANCE MINDED: ES F SPORT

On the F Sport 2 model, an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is offered that replaces the Dynamic Control Shocks with adjustable dampers. Similar to the systems offered on the LC coupe and LS sedan, the AVS system on the ES is capable of 650 levels of adjustment to deliver optimal ride quality and precise control. Adjustments are based on information from sensors that measure both linear and vertical g-loads, vehicle speed, steering angle, yaw rate and master cylinder pressure in addition to information from the engine control computer and skid control computer.

All versions of the ES offer a Drive Mode Select system that allows the driver to tailor the car’s settings to varying road conditions. Models without AVS offer Eco, Normal and Sport modes while AVS-equipped cars replace Sport mode with Sport S while adding Sport S+ and Custom.

In Eco mode, fuel consumption is prioritized by reducing the engine responses to the throttle and suppressing the use of the climate control system. On non AVS cars, Sport mode quickens throttle responses, changes the transmission shift program and alters the steering assist for added control, while AVS-equipped cars only adjust the throttle and transmission settings when in Sport S mode.

For more aggressive driving, Sport S+ mode adjusts the throttle, transmission and steering parameters along with the adaptive dampers. In Custom mode, drivers can choose three engine and transmission programs (Eco, Normal, Sport), two steering and suspension programs (Normal, Sport) and two climate programs (Eco, Normal).

PLENTIFUL POWERTRAINS

With the addition of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine powering the new ES 250 AWD model to the ES lineup, there are now three different powertrain options when including the returning ES 350 and ES 300h.

All ES 350s are powered by a 3.5-litre V6 (2GR-FKS) that is designed to deliver responsive acceleration along with impressive efficiency. The latest V6 now features the D-4S fuel injection system which uses high-pressure injectors to deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber along with a low-pressure system that delivers fuel to the intake ports. Together with the addition of Variable Valve Timing-intelligence Wide (VVTi-W) for the intake valves, the engine is capable of operating on either the traditional Otto cycle during sporty driving or the more efficient Atkinson cycle when power demand is low.

The 3.5-litre V6 is rated to produce 302 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 267 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. Manufacturer fuel efficiency estimates come in at 10.7 L/100 km city, 7.2 L/100 km highway and 9.1 L/100 km in combined driving. To complement the power of the updated V6, an 8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission is used on all ES 350s.

The ES 300h’s 2.5-litre, four-cylinder gas engine (A25A-FXS) running on the Atkinson cycle is coupled with a smaller, more power dense electric motor and a hybrid transaxle. The results are a combined 215 total system horsepower and a manufacturer estimated 5.3 L/100 km combined fuel consumption. Engineers also relocated the nickel-metal hybrid battery that powers the electric motor from the trunk to underneath the back seat, thanks to a 120 mm reduction in the height of the battery and the adoption of a more compact cooling system. Not only does this free up trunk space, but it also improves the front-to-rear weight distribution of the ES for better handling.

The ES 300h features a hybrid control system designed to deliver a more linear acceleration feel by aligning engine speed more closely with vehicle speed to reduce the rubber band feel commonly associated with hybrid systems. Engaging the Sport drive mode further enhances acceleration by boosting torque at lower speeds while paddle shifters can be used to move through six simulated gears for more precise control.

COMFORT COMES FROM WITHIN

Key refinements to the driving position were made to the seventh-generation ES including a more natural steering wheel angle, revised pedal positions and standard 10-way power adjustable front seats. Taking cues from the flagship LS, the wheel is directly borrowed from the flagship and features an ergonomically shaped wheel and optional wood trim and heating elements. Heated seats are also available for the driver and front passenger along with a new suction-type ventilation system that provides improved cooling in hot weather.

The drivers aren’t the only ones receiving attention, however. Rear-seat passenger comfort is still a hallmark of the ES, with headroom that is enhanced compared to the previous generation through the use of a lower hip point and a carefully configured headliner. The ES also can hold its own in the storage space department, literally, as it features 393 litre of trunk space along with additional underfloor side pockets for smaller items. The hybrid model also offers the same cargo dimensions since the battery pack is located underneath the rear seat. An optional hands-free trunk opener makes loading cargo an easy task.

MULTIMEDIA MADE FOR THE MASSES

To make multimedia connectivity seamless for Lexus owners, all 2021 ES models feature Apple CarPlay™® and Android Auto™ compatibility.

The Lexus multimedia system sits high on the ES dashboard and measures 8 inches wide on the ES 250 AWD Signature model and 12.3 inches wide on all other ES 250 AWD, ES 350 and ES 300h models, the Electro Multi Vision (EMV) display features crisp, easy-to-read graphics and a revised menu system.

Much like the multimedia screen, the goal for the ES interior is to place all of the main information displays within the driver’s line of sight and this includes the LCD instrument panel that features a large analog tachometer, digital speedometer and easy-to-read multi-information display. Standard models employ a 7-inch screen while the F-SPORT display measures 8-inches and features a movable center ring similar to the one used in the LC. Hit a button on the steering wheel, and the ring slides over to open up more space for the multi-information display on the left side of the screen.

A 10-speaker Pioneer audio system comes standard on all models, while a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system is available. Along with 1,800 watts of power, the Mark Levinson system also brings Clari-Fi® technology to the cabin that helps boost the sound quality of low fidelity digital audio sources.

The Enform Safety Connect trial is offered for the first 3 years of ownership with access to Lexus Enform Response Centers for emergency support 24/7/365. With the Enform Service Connect — provided for the first 10 years of ownership — the ES can send vehicle health reports straight to the Lexus App.

Enform Remote comes with a three-year trial, offering Guests the ability to remotely view and control certain aspects of the ES using the Lexus App for iOS and Android® devices. Functions include remote door lock/unlock; remote engine start/stop; last parked location, Guest driver settings and more. Select features can also be used with an Amazon Alexa™ or Google Assistant enabled device. Select models also come equipped with Lexus Navigation as well as a three-year trial of Enform Destination Assist.

SAFETY FEATURES ADDED FOR 2021

All grades of the 2021 ES feature Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 as standard equipment.

The Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system remains an integral part of LSS+ 2.0. It’s designed to alert the driver when it senses that the vehicle is deviating from its lane with audible and visual alerts, as well as steering wheel vibration. It’s also capable of providing a certain amount of steering assist to help keep the car from deviating from its marked lane.

The Lane Departure Alert with Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) comes standard and is designed to detect lane markings to determine lane position and place the vehicle in the center of the lane when working in conjunction with the All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. If road markings are not detected, LTA is also capable, in certain conditions, of following the car ahead of it.

TORONTO, Ontario – JULY 21, 2020 - After its global debut at the 2019 Los Angeles International Auto Show was met with rave reviews, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is ready for showtime on Lexus dealer lots across the country this summer. Expanding upon the flagship performance of its coupe counterpart, the LC 500 Convertible broadens the LC family with a stunning, eye-catching design and its own luxurious handling characteristics designed to take top-down driving to the next level.

Elite Athleticism
The LC 500 Convertible may be based in part on the LC 500 coupe, but it is no mere crop-topped replica. Considerable driving evaluation and analysis went into crafting unique driving qualities that give the vehicle its own athletic identity to offer impressive performance that remains true to its convertible design.

Enhancing structural rigidity was high on the list of objectives. Engineers went to work crafting an all-new torsion box at the rear, which, when paired with a new suspension tower brace and V-brace, help provide enhanced rigidity, handling stability and linear responsiveness. Chassis rigidity is further enhanced with the relocation of various structural braces, which includes additional gusseting at the bottom of both the A and B pillars. Laser Screw Welding and the use of high-tensile-strength steel through the structure also aids in chassis reinforcement.

Careful attention was given to the LC Convertible’s suspension, which is tuned specifically to complement the subtle changes in weight between the coupe and convertible. From its dampers and coils, to its bushings and the unique Yamaha Performance damper placed transversely at the rear, the Convertible’s specially-designed components to ensure a comfortable yet sharp road-going performance. A reduction of un-sprung weight in the front suspension improves the overall stroke, and weight is also reduced in the rear with the use of a lightweight die-cast aluminum for the construction of the suspension tower brace.

The tuning of the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) is optimized to complement the convertible as well. The AVS system continually adjusts damping control in response to driving operation and road surface conditions, with the ability to adjust to an impressive 650 different levels of damping force. The AVS system has also been relocated compared to the previous model year coupe, as it no longer resides at the top of the absorber and is now mounted to the lower side of the shock absorber body below the spring.

The LC 500 Convertible comes standard with 21-inch forged wheels. Run-flat tires are employed at all four corners to eliminate the need for a spare tire, which, in turn, allows engineers to shorten the rear overhang and save additional weight by foregoing a spare.

Cream of the Crop Top
The LC Convertible’s soft-top design allowed engineers to focus on accentuating the sleek lines of the convertible without significant intrusions to the trunk and cabin space that can come with a heavier, bulkier hard top. It features an innovative folding mechanism that includes a tonneau cover for when it is stored. The coupe’s curves are accentuated with the silhouette of the convertible in a way that only Japanese design can imbue. Even the smooth roof movement is inspired by the three-step movement of Japanese calligraphy: ink brush to paper; movement to the right; the stopping of the ink brush.

The roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 50 km/h. An animated display on the instrumentation panel shows the top’s progress, and it also provide warning messages to confirm the status of the soft top roof. One of the most impressive aspects is the time it takes: approximately 15 seconds to open and approximately 16 seconds to close, depending upon environmental factors. Even the sound system is fine-tuned specifically for the convertible with an EQ that adjusts based on the driving environment whether the top is open or closed. The power window controls have been linked to the movement of the roof as well, allowing the ability to switch to open air freedom with the single push of a button.

Once closed, a tonneau covers the roof storage space to provide a weather resistant seal from the elements. The rear profile of the LC Convertible trunk is accentuated with a “kicked up” design that lifts its profile slightly, while the surface of the spoiler is laterally broadened to emphasize the low, wide stance of the car. The center brake light is now integrated into the trunk lid.

Premium magnesium and aluminum components are adopted for the roof links and support structure to provide both a reduction in weight and a design with a low center of gravity. The roof material itself was carefully selected and manufactured to help ensure optimal tension, to minimize wrinkling and improve sound insulation. The four-layer soft top, which includes three layers of fabric and one layer of sound-absorbing material, is designed to retain the flowing roofline of the coupe without the supporting frame visible through the fabric.

A hydraulic system is responsible for opening and closing the convertible’s roof in an elegant, seamless motion. The system features an electromagnetic valve to control the hydraulic pressure generated by the hydraulic pump to extend or contract cylinders for the tension bow, main roof and the tonneau cover. Three times the number of typical durability tests were conducted to ensure reliability and quietness of operation.

The LC 500 Convertible top is offered in three colours: Black, Sand and Marine (exclusively available on the Inspiration Edition). Exterior paint options include Ultra White, Smoky Granite Mica, Liquid Platinum, Atomic Silver, Caviar, Infrared*, Flare Yellow*, Nori Green Pearl and Nightfall Mica. Depending upon the exterior colour chosen, three interior colours are available: Black, Circuit Red and Toasted Caramel.

*Colours require a premium paint charge

Endless Summer
Regardless of the weather trending hot or cool, the LC 500 Convertible is designed with an HVAC system that adjusts the temperature whether the top is raised or lowered. The Lexus Climate Concierge with Upper Body Heating automatically manages the air conditioner, seat heaters, neck heaters and steering-wheel heater to ensure the cabin is comfortable. The HVAC system is even optimized to send warm or cold air to the back of the driver’s hands when gripping the steering wheel.

Engineers took care to ensure the driving experience is ideal for all occupants, as the cabin is designed to reduce wind noise thanks to the unique shape of the beltline and rear molding to help suppress wind from entering. A standard transparent polycarbonate wind deflector helps restrict unwanted air from entering the cabin during  low-speed travel, such as driving in the city while the standard windscreen provides improved cabin experience during high-speed travel, such as freeway driving, for comfortable conversing with the top down. Active Noise Control (ANC) combines sound insulation and absorption techniques to help suppress unwanted harshness from entering the cabin.

Aspirated, Naturally
There’s no question that the purr (and eventual roar) of the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 elicits an intoxicating note that beckons the driver to depress the throttle and bring the engine to life. The front-engine, rear-wheel-drive LC Convertible shares the same direct-injected V8 powerplant as the LC Coupe. The engine is rated to produce 471 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. For the LC Convertible, the engine is paired with a Direct-Shift 10-speed automatic transmission. The Convertible posts an impressive 0-96 km/h time of 4.6 seconds, and its maximum track speed is electronically limited to 270 km/h.

Although great effort is put into keeping certain sounds out of the new LC 500 Convertible, the powerful roar of the naturally-aspirated V8 engine is not one of them. Engine intake pulses are naturally carried through a diaphragm into a sound pipe that carries the sounds of the V8, not the air itself, into the cabin to enhance its rumble (similar to the system employed in the Lexus LFA). To further enhance the aggressive tone of the engine’s exhaust and augment performance, a computer-controlled valve balances the fine line between optimizing exhaust back-pressure and exhaust tone and volume at higher engine speeds.

Staying Connected
Inside, the LC 500 Convertible is equipped with an impressive 10.3-inch high-resolution split-screen multimedia display to provide immediate access to audio or climate controls and various systems, including the voice-activated navigation system.

The multimedia system features Android Auto™ compatibility, allowing you to seamlessly cast your device’s interface onto the vehicle’s multimedia display. Play your music via your favorite apps send messages navigate with Google Maps™ and more with Google Assistant™.

With Apple CarPlay™ integration, you can access the familiar interface from your iPhone through the vehicle’s multimedia display. Simply connect an iPhone to get directions, make calls, send and receive message via Siri®, and access apps to listen to music and podcasts.

The 2021 Lexus LC Convertible features Lexus Navigation with Remote that includes Embedded Navigation, Enform Destination Assist (3 year trial), Enform Remote (3 year trial), Enform Safety Connect (3 year trial) and Enform Service Connect (10 year trial).

Inspiration Series – 1 of 4
A unique, one-of-a-kind LC Convertible based on the Inspiration Series crossed the auction block at Barrett-Jackson in early 2020 and raised an impressive 2 million dollars for charity, split evenly between the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. This one-of-one vehicle is no longer available, but those looking to get their hands on one of the units it was based on are still in luck.

Limited to only 4 units in Canada, the 2021 LC Convertible Inspiration Series features an exclusive Structural Blue paint job, which is paired with the exclusive Bespoke Amalfi White semi-aniline leather-trimmed interior and Marine-coloured soft top. It comes equipped with 21-inch forged alloy wheels, a limited slip differential in the rear, and a rear performance rod with damper.

Inside, carbon-fibre door sill scuff plates are marked with the Inspiration Series logo. An exclusive serialized number will reside on the door jamb. The front headrests are embossed with the Lexus logo, while the cabin is kept cozy thanks to the Climate Concierge with Upper Body Heating. The Inspiration Series will also feature 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio system complete with an 11-channel 918-watter amplifier.  The 2021 LC Convertible Inspiration Edition MSRP is $132,500.

Lexus Safety System+
The new 2021 LC Convertible will come standard with Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+). This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Lane Keep Assist, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Intelligent High Beams. Also like the LC 500 coupe, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert come standard.

There are important safety features specific to convertible, though, such as the active roll bars that are designed to deploy upward when a rollover is detected. When not deployed, these roll bars are hidden from view to retain the convertible’s exquisite silhouette when the top is down.

Toyota Canada and its Dealers Expand their Partnership with Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec During COVID-19 Pandemic

Canadian Blood Services - Blood Donation 1

Toronto, April 9, 2020 – Toyota Canada and its dealers are joining Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec to remind Canadians that donating blood remains important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Toyota Canada is expanding their existing partnership with Canadian Blood Services by donating more than $1 million worth of advertising time to communicate the ongoing need for donations of blood and blood products, and to help update Canadians about the additional measures the organizations have taken to protect the health and safety of their donors.

At the national level, the amplification of this message will include the donation of television ad space to Canadian Blood Services, as well as a coordinated online and social campaign to help get the word out. At the local level, Toyota and Lexus dealers across Canada are also helping the effort in a number of other ways.

“Many Canadians are looking for a way to help their community during this pandemic and donating blood is one way they can make an important difference,” said Stephen Beatty, Vice President, Corporate, Toyota Canada Inc. “Our partners at Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec suggested that, along with our dealers across Canada, we could do our part by spreading the message that blood will continue to be necessary to help patients in Canada in the months ahead. One powerful choice people can make is to book an appointment to donate blood or register online to become a stem cell or organ donor.”

Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec are responsible for providing lifesaving products and services in transfusion and transplantation. The red blood cells, plasma, platelets and other blood products collected are essential for patients undergoing surgery, for cancer treatments, and for saving lives following trauma such as accidents. The Canadian government notes that 52 per cent of Canadians say they or a family member have needed blood or blood products at some point in their lives.

The collaboration with Toyota began as a knowledge-sharing project in 2015 when, in its first Canadian endeavor, the Toyota Production System Support Centre collaborated with Canadian Blood Services to identify opportunities for process improvements at their production and distribution facilities. Significant improvements included additional production time, a 40 per cent reduction in packing time, and a 30 per cent reduction in steps taken by employees every day.

Since that time, Toyota Canada and its dealers have extended their support to Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec with financial contributions totaling more than $1.5 million dollars.

“At a time like this, we are extremely grateful to our partners for helping us to communicate the need for ongoing donations of blood during this challenging time,” said Ron Vezina, Vice President, Public Affairs, at Canadian Blood Services. “Our partnership with Toyota Canada is helping to keep our message strong and let Canadians know that we have robust safety measures in place to ensure healthy Canadians can provide lifesaving contributions.”

Canadian Blood Services - Blood Donation 2

In addition to its national partnership, Toyota dealers across the country regularly support their communities by providing shuttle vehicles, hosting blood donor clinics and donating advertising space to help Canadian Blood Services and Héma-Québec recruit donors at the local level.

In 2019, Toyota Canada and its dealers received the Canadian Blood Services National Partnership Award for their commitment to supporting Canada’s lifeline.

Canadians are being encouraged to book future appointments to donate blood now:
